What Is Good Date Selection?

Methods, tools & real-life examples from our Feng Shui practice

There’s a common belief in the metaphysical world:
“Any day can be a good day – if it’s the right one for you.”
And that’s exactly what Date Selection is all about.

What is Date Selection in Feng Shui?

Think of Date Selection like surfing. You wait for the right wave – the one that carries you effortlessly forward. If you try to surf when the ocean is flat, you’ll waste your energy. If you jump in during a storm, you might get pulled under.

Time works in a similar way – if we choose the right moment, we reach our goals with less resistance and more flow.

We at the Feng Shui Calendar Team have used Date Selection for years in both personal and professional life. But it wasn’t always like that…

When we first started working with Feng Shui, we focused mostly on location: the space, the environment, the flow of Qi. But we noticed something: sometimes, despite a good Feng Shui setup, the results just didn’t show up.

Why?
Because we didn’t consider the timing.

What makes a “good” day?

In traditional systems, good days are those when the daily energy (Qi) is stable, supportive, and aligned with your activity.
These days are found using a mix of traditional tools, including:

  • 12 Day Officers/Tung Kung Days (e.g. Grasp, Initiate, Success, etc.)
  • Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches (from the Tung Sing/Tong Shu system)
  • Breaker Days (Year or Month Breakers = energetic clashes)
  • Water Sat Days (days when activities involving water are not recommended)

We include all of these in the Feng Shui Calendar 2026, and even more.

But what truly makes a good day, is when the day also matches you.

General vs. Personal Good Days

Let’s say it’s a Grasp Day.
It’s generally a great time to start new things.

But it becomes really powerful when it also:

  • Carries your supportive element from your Bazi
  • Combines with your day or year master
  • Matches your personal Kua energy

That’s when things fall into place, seemingly without effort.

Everyone can benefit – at any level

Whether you’re just starting out or already experienced, there are tools that match your level:

  • Beginners can use the 12 Day Officers for quick guidance
  • Intermediate users add awareness of Breaker & Sat Days
  • Experts use Kua, personal elements and interaction with time energy

Real-Life Examples

Example 1: Launching a business

One of our clients was about to launch her first business.
We helped her choose a Grasp Day that also contained her supportive element and matched her Kua energy.

She used that day to register her business and launch her website.

The result?
She felt energized and focused – and received her first bookings within hours. The feedback from clients? “It just felt right.”

Example 2: Pushing through on a Breaker Day

Another client had planned a major product presentation on a Year Breaker Day. Everything was ready – slides, speech, client meeting.

But:
The presentation was canceled last-minute due to a tech failure on the client side. And the opportunity never returned.

Lesson: Sometimes, even a “neutral” day with better energetic flow is safer than pushing through on a day full of conflict.

Common Pitfalls

  • Choosing the strongest day energetically – but ignoring your own compatibility
  • Wanting everything to be “perfect” – and ending up paralyzed
  • Ignoring warning signs like Water Sat or Breaker Days
  • Starting big projects on solstice or equinox days → Qi is at a standstill

Tip:
Pay attention to how you feel on certain days. With practice, you’ll start to notice patterns – and learn to work with time, not against it.
